The first municipal corporation in India was established by the British in Presidency of Madras.

Steps taken by government for Agriculture.

Kisan Credit Card:

The Kisan Credit Card Scheme is implemented by Commercial Banks, Cooperative Banks and Regional Rural Banks throughout India.

The Scheme has led to increase in credit flow for agricultural activities. The scope of the KCC has been broad-based to include both needs like investments in agriculture as well as short term loans needed by farmers for his daily needs.

KCC Scheme has since been simplified and converted into ATM enabled debit card with any number of withdrawals within the limit.

Scope of middlemen to interfere is thus reduced.

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

PMFBY has been approved for implementation from kharif 2016 along with Unified Package Insurance Scheme (UPIS) and a new Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS).

Under the PMFBY, a uniform maximum premium of only 2 per cent will be paid by farmers for all kharif crops and 1.5 per cent for all rabi crops.

In case of annual commercial and horticultural crops, the maximum premium to be paid by farmers will be only 5 per cent.

The premium rates to be paid by farmers are very low and balance premium will be paid by the Government to protect farmers against crop loss due to natural calamities.

It was setup to evolve a price structure and to advise on the price policy (MSP) of 23 crops.

These include seven cereal crops , five pulse crops , seven oilseeds , copra (dried coconut), coon, raw jute and sugarcane fair and remunerative prices (FRP) instead of MSP.

CACP submits its recommendations to the government. Before preparing the pricing policy reports, the Commission seeks views of various state governments, concerned national organizations and ministries.

Factors that go in determining prices:

  3. price trends in the market, both domestic and international

  4. intercrop price parity, terms of trade between agricultural and non-agricultural sectors

  5. likely implications of MSP on consumers of that product

  6. optimal utilization of natural resources like land and water.

e-Tourist Visa



Launched in 2014 currently it is available to 150 countries and has generated Rs. 1.35 lakh crore worth of earnings for the country.

Total 4.5 lakh tourists have used this facility and 16 airports in India have this scheme.

Medical Tourism (also called medical travel, health tourism or global healthcare) is also promoted by the Tourism Ministry and private sector plays a major role in this.

  1. Subscribers (any Indian citizen) in the age group of 18 to 55 can join NPS and contribute till the age of 60.
