Andhra Pradesh

First state formed on basis of linguism. It has the second largest coastline after Gujarat. 62% of state is doing agriculture and rice alone accounts for 77% of the food production. Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated into Telengana state in 2014. It ranks first in terms of loans to agricultural sector from commercial and cooperative banks.

It stands first in limestone production. It generates maximum revenue from mineral production amongst all states.

Arunachal Pradesh

The right most point of India is present in this State.

Arunachal Pradesh has a hydropower potential of 50000MW and has the highest number of medicinal plants in any Indian state.

Assam:

Land of the Red river or blue hills. Influence of tribes of Australian, Mongolian, Dravidian, Aryan.

Bihar:

The most densely populated state. The city of patliputra was discovered by Bimbisar.

Gujarat:

Largest coastline in India. Gujarat is 1st amongst states in the implementation of Swatchh Bharat mission. 60% of all toilets built as part of the mission are in Gujarat. Gujarat is the nation's solar capital with the first state to have a solar policy, first in the world to build a photovoltaic project in Mehsana district. 71% of Nation's solar capacity is in Gujarat. 48% of traffic at all ports and 80% of traffic at minor ports of India is at Gujarat.

Haryana:

One of the most modern states that has provided roads, electricity, potable water to all villages. Ranks second after Goa in terms of per capita income.


Maharashtra

Maharashtra Bhushan award in 2015 went to Babasaheb Purandare for literature.

Koyna river is a tributary of Krishna and it rises in Mahabaleshwar.

It meets Krishna river at Karad and is known as the lifeline of Maharashtra.

Godavari is the second largest river and rises in Nashik. It is known as Dakshin Ganga.

East west length is 800 km and North South is 700 km and the coastline is 720 km long.

Sindhudurg is the first tourism district of the state.

Balshastri Jambhekar is the "Father of Marathi Journalism" started the first Marathi newspaper named "Darpan".

There are four agriculture universities in the state namely: Mahatma Phule at Ahmednagar, Bala sawant at ratnagiri, Punjabrao deshmukh at Akola and Vasantrao Naik at Parbhani.

University of Mumbai was founded in 1857 by John Wilson who became its first chancellor. The first Indian V-C was K.T.Telang

First sugar cooperative of the State was at Pravara, Ahmednagar.

Sheriff

Apolitical, titular position given to a prominent citizen for 1 year.

Mumbai and Kolkata are the only cities with sheriff. The main function is to receive foreign dignitaries. First sheriff of Mumbai was Bhau Daji Lad.
