Chapter 13: HOUSING

Introduction


The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty alleviation is concerned with solving the problems of urbanization. The 60% of India's GDP comes from urban areas and 31% of India's population stays in urban areas as per census 2011. Out of that 19% is staying in slums.

Housing for All

Launched in 2015 to achieve the governments vision of housing for everyone by 2022. The mission would target urban poor and people living in slums. The components of this scheme include slum rehabilitation, interest subvention on loans, grants for construction projects of affordable housing via PPP mode.

National Urban Livelihoods Mission

Launched in 2013 to provide livelihood to urban poor and homeless. The main focus is on organizing urban poor into self help groups and creating opportunities for skill development leading to market based employment. The support will be provided in form of access to credit to setup self employment ventures.
