• LORIA and the company KIT are recruiting a post doc on a permanent contract, future R&D manager

  • Context The BIRD team of the LORIA laboratory (Nancy) and the company Keep In Touch (Startup of 10 employees recognized Deeptech, based in Strasbourg and incubated at SEMIA) are recruiting a post-doctoral student on a permanent contract (contract of indefinite duration) in the field of the Analytic Human Resource: AI for the benefit of e-recruitment.

  • The objective of the joint research project is the automatic identification of elements (company/offer and candidate) not formalized in job offers and CVs to improve the quality of recruitment.

  • Current recruitment approaches rely on information explicitly presented in CVs and job offers to automatically identify promising candidate profiles for a given job offer (positions held, technical skills, years of experience, employer, etc.) .)

  • However, important elements that are not explicitly present come and must be taken into consideration for successful recruitment.

  • For example, skills acquired in one area and transferable to another, skills/skills not explicitly mentioned but inferred from the activities mentioned, business practices, etc.

  • Objectives of the post-doctoral fellow The post-doc will have several objectives:

  • - Design an automatic identification model of latent skills. This model will be based on machine learning and will use a database of CVs and personality tests.

  • - Design a model for creating a (argued) portrait of a company reflecting practices, feelings, etc. around this business. This work will be based on data from partner companies (the exact nature of which is still being defined with the partners).

  • - Create an offer (company)/CV matching model using the implicit elements and based on the two previous models.

  • - Contribute to the finalization of the development of the recruitment platform

  • The recruited person will be in contact with the CTO and the CEO of the company, but also with the LORIA laboratory. She will actively participate in finalizing the development of a recruitment platform currently under development. The person will become the company's R&D manager. The person recruited will be an employee of the company and made available to the LORIA laboratory in Nancy. The workplace will be to be agreed between Strasbourg and Nancy with occasional trips between the two sites to be planned.

  • Recruitment: as soon as possible

  • Required Skills. The recruited person will hold a doctorate in computer science (specialty Artificial Intelligence and machine learning preferably), knowledge of automatic language processing would be appreciated.

  • A strong capacity for interaction: understanding of needs and argumentation of choices (oral and written) is required.

  • Developing skills are needed.

  • Subject: Offer recommendation systems such as NBO (Next Best Offer) are increasingly common in companies like Orange seeking to improve their relationship with users of their services. Customers or visitors are offered a personalized action based on their profiles and preferences. However, personalized treatment by recommending an offer based on these criteria is not always enough to satisfy a customer.

  • It is therefore important for companies to measure the uplift [1], ie the difference in income or satisfaction between the choices that the customer would have made without a recommendation and those that he makes with a recommendation. The challenge of offer recommendation systems is therefore to find algorithms to measure the uplift and estimate efficient recommender system policies. The choice of the uplift measure and the modeling of the system policy is an important issue to maximize the impact of actions.

  • An intrinsic difficulty of the uplift is that you cannot do a treatment and a non-treatment for the same individual. This implies that the uplift cannot be measured directly for an individual but only for a group of individuals, what is called the CATE (Conditional Average Treatment Effect). Apart from the measurement of the CATE in a system where the profiles change according to the treatment that one wants to do, becomes difficult to estimate [4]. In addition, biases between data from different treatments bias the measurement of CATE. The literature offers different approaches to solve this problem. Some aim to debias the data and use a robust estimator [2] and others to use causal approaches directly [5].

  • The objective of the thesis is to propose new evaluation metrics and modeling methods for uplift in an offer recommendation system. The main challenges are the evaluation of the uplift in a recommender system and the learning of recommendation policy optimizing the uplift in a context of biased data. We will focus in particular on the causal approaches [3, 5] and Bayesian approach [2] known for their robustness.
